Laser Tattoo Removal Aftercare
Once treatment is complete your skin will be a little red and will feel tender. The treated area will be covered with a little antiseptic, soothing ointment from a fresh pot to reduce the tenderness and keep the area moisturised and free from bacteria. The rest of the ointment will be given to you to use at home. If your clothes do not already cover the treated area it will be covered with a dressing to keep the light away.
The aftercare we recommend is Tattoo aftercare. Made with Lavender, Tea Tree and Niaouli essential oils in a natural base with no Parabens, no Alcohol, no Lanolin and no Petroleum, we've found it's the kindest and most effective treatment for laser-treated skin. please click here for the Tattoo Aftercare Website
The treated area will be hot to the touch and could be red and swollen for the rest of the day. It is common for the treated area to blister after treatment and you might develop scabs. If treated correctly the blisters and scabs will usually get better within a few days. Once the scabs have healed the treated area will look 'shiny' for a number of weeks. This is the skin's normal healing process.
DO NOT pick at any blisters or scabs that may develop, as this will cause permanent scarring.
It is VITAL that you keep the treated area out of the sun and keep it covered on bright days with either thick clothing or a dressing. It is advisable to use a very high factor sunblock and keep the area as pale as possible.
If you think you might be tempted to pick at scabs or blisters then use a dressing to stop yourself, as you will cause scarring and reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.
Cleaning
Get a small bowl of warm water and add a teaspoon of sea salt to the water. Gently bathe the treated area with this water using a cotton wool ball.
You will be given antiseptic cream. Apply a very small amount of cream onto the treated area after cleaning. Be very gentle with both the cleaning and the application of the cream.
Please remember that you won't see any results at first, but your tattoo will gradually fade over time. The photographs we take will show the progress over the course of your treatment.
Unwanted effects
So many people choose this method of tattoo removal because unwanted side effects are very rare and usually occur only when aftercare instructions are not followed.
Scarring is very unlikely, but it is possible. You are more likely to cause scarring by picking at scabs and blisters or if you don't cover up in the sunshine. Some skin is prone to scarring or can scar more easily. We will check your skin for this during consultation.
In very rare cases skin depigmentation (bleaching) can occur and you may notice that the treated area will not tan as easily as the rest of your skin. This usually resolves itself over time, but can take months or even years. Making sure that your skin is as light as possible before treatment reduces the risk of the melanin (skin pigment) becoming damaged.
